Some recent viewings

Recently, we watched A Home at the End of the World, based on a Michael Cunningham novel. Had some humor and didn't get too melodramatic. Also ended before anyone got really ill. These movies about the 70s can just make you so sad - you can shout at the screen, "Hey, stop sleeping with all these men you don't know!" but it does no good. Colin Farrell does a pretty good job here, as does Robin Wright Penn.

Van Helsing. Way campy!

Finally saw The Quiet American. The voiceovers grated on the nerves. I wonder if the novel offered better character development. I was left wanting something more, although Caine's performance was quite strong.

Watched The Hours again. One of my favorites.

Ebert & Roeper's show tonight had some great selections...the new Clint Eastwood, Closer, Ocean's Twelve and The Aviator, which I hadn't been too thrilled with based on the previews. But it is a Scorsese, and tonight we saw clips of Cate Blanchett in her role as Katharine Hepburn. Wow!

Always lots to see, and so many that don't even make it to the Palouse. Gael Garcia Bernal was on Charlie Rose Friday night, too brief a segment, but he was very interesting. The Motorcycle Diaries is here, but La mala education isn't, no surprise!
